**Calculate your bark, compost or
topsoil needs using our volume calculator.**

*Please Note -
This calculator requires a
JavaScript-enabled browser to function properly!*

To use the **Soil and Bark Volume
Calculator**, simply enter the width, length, and thickness of your area to be
covered, click on whether you are measuring the thickness in feet or inches,
then click on the Calculate button. The calculator will estimate the number of
cubic yards of soil or bark that will be required.

Keep in mind variables which will effect the total yardage required - Areas with excessive plants such as groundcovers and low growing bushes will require less material while areas with uneven ground or excessive weeds and debris will require more material.

Odd shaped areas may require a little more work to come up with the square footage. Do your best to estimate an appropriate length and width using the formulas provided at the bottom of this page.

If you know the total square footage of your project, you may also enter it below along with the depth in inches and click calculate to give you the total yardage needed for your project.

__Area Calculations__: Draw
your site as accurately as possible - graph paper works
well. For odd or complex shapes, divide the area into
combinations of rectangles, triangles, and/or circles. Use
the following formulas to determine area:

**Rectangle: Area = length x
width**

**Circle: Area = 3.1416 x the
square of the radius**

**Triangle: Area = 1/2 x length of
base x length of height**

**To determine topsoil
requirements for areas of varying grade, use a transit to
indicate exact fill requirements...or estimate an average
fill depth. **
